WiFi (E1.31) 16+ channel dumb strip controler.

Postby Barnabybear » Fri Apr 22, 2016 11:34 pm

Hi, just finished the first 2 boards I designed. They use one of my favourite toys the ESP8266-01, combined with a PCA9685 standalone PWM IC then driving Si2302 FETs, on the back of the board are 6 2.4 A PCT fuses for protection. The result is a 16 channel 55mm x 50mm PWM DC controller 1 / 2A per channel depending on how you use it that has cost me £6.68 for the master (includes the ESP & voltage regulator) and £4.28 for the slave (attaches to the master to give 16 more channels).
Some pictures.

To give you an idea of size, the two are in a 3D pinted box 125mm x 100mm.

Inspired by the cost of postage from the US - the best thing I've ever done.

How are the connections to the lights done?

The thick black bit at the bottom is a 16 X 2 header socket, the sort of thing you get on the side of Adruinos, it is fitted sideways onto the edge of the PCB and the pins soldered to the top and bottom (edge connector). This sort of thing - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/10PCS-DOUBLE- ... Sw3mpXEoNc

And this sort of thing plugs into the socket - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5-X-MOLEX-877 ... xyCepSa727

They are rated at about 3A so fine for this application - not flash but I needed some thing small to fit the board and it kept the cost down and as I need about 20 cost was important.

Hi, it could but the FETs (field effect transistors) are only rated at 20V and it would need some tweeks to the 3.3V regulator. Both should be easy enough. What are you thinking of driving?

I am thinking of driving incandescent lanterns which I purchased from Wilko a few years ago, as well as Ray's 20 watt flood.

Hi, I've found some FETs that are the same size and rated for 30V that are not to expencive (£7.50 / 100 as opposed to the £2.50 / 100 that I used). I'll se if I can get hold of some localy and test them as it's 4 to 6 weeks from China.
